So…me.
I’m Maisha, a Jamaican-born southern-raised UX/UI designer based in Atlanta.
I have always been creatively inclined, and drawing and painting has been a passion of mine throughout my entire life. I thoroughly enjoy the creative process, and combining it with the design process of UX/UI is something that immediately attracted me to this design field. The balance of left and right brain capabilities that UX design requires is an exciting and challenging landscape like no other.
Prior to discovering this field, I worked 14 years as a salon and spa manager, then realized I needed a career path that was more fulfilling. I left without knowing where I would end up. I heard of a distant family member getting a new job in UX design, and after researching what the hell UX was, I immediately knew it was something I wanted to pursue.
Fortunately, my background in salon management equipped me with valuable interpersonal skills that are applied daily when designing with a human-centered approach. The ability to connect with and listen to clients and employees has allowed me to better understand user’s needs and frustrations, whether explicitly or implicitly acknowledged.
My main goal as a designer is to make users lives just a little bit easier with my designs and have a positive impact on the way they interact with the digital world.
When I’m not on the design grind, I’m usually drawing, painting, attempting a DIY project of some kind, or on the rare occasion that I am out of the house, I’m probably enjoying live music.
